ICX 6450-24 no results with show optic command

I am using an original Foundry E1MG-LX-OM (date code 08/2010) in an ICX 6450-24 and would like to use the Optical Monitoring feature. I have the transceiver plugged into eth port 1/2/1, port configured for 1000-full, optical monitor enabled and have a live link up to an HP procurve switch over a singlemode fiber jumper. Both switches are happy and the ports are passing traffic fine. When I enter and "show optic" command on the ICX 6450 it just returns with the command prompt (no temp, power, etc. OM data).

I have tried the part in other switches and the DOM function in the transceiver works fine. Any ideas how I can get it working in the Brocade box?

Re: ICX 6450-24 no results with show optic command

I have a 6450-48, which I recently upgraded to the latest 08030m firmware, and I'm getting the same no displaying of information....

If I do show media, I can see the details for the optics. I also have a connection working to a HP procurve. Unfortunately, I think one of the optics I have is bad, so I've been trying to get the optic details to help with the RMA.

Did this situation ever get resolved?

Hey ta_sysadmin,

Can you show what you mean?

Output to gather:
show media eth z/y/z
show optic x/y/z

Re: ICX 6450-24 no results with show optic command

Works for me on the same OS:

SSH@Maintenance#sh media ethernet 1/2/1
Port 1/2/1: Type : 1GE M-SX(SFP)
Vendor: BROCADE Version: A
Part# : 57-1000118-01 Serial#: TAF112060000UB0

The monitoring requires you tun on optical-monitoring though.

Re: ICX 6450-24 no results with show optic command

So when I run a "show media 1/2/1" it does display information for the optics.

I can't get the optical monitoring to work. It just gives me zero output.

telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#show media ethernet 1/2/1
Port 1/2/1: Type : 10GE SR 300m ((SFP+))
Vendor: FiberStore Version: A
Part# : SFP-10GSR-85 Serial#: F1712600080

When I do show optic, I get nothing returned.

telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#show optic
optic Optic Temperature and Power
optic-timer Display Optical monitoring time interval
telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#show optic 1/2/1
telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#

telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#show optic-timer
Optical monitoring timer interval is 3 mins
telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch#

If I do set the optic timer to 8 minutes, which is weird since the firmware defaults to 3 minutes, but some of the documentation online indicates it might need to be longer than 8minutes.

telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)#optical-monitor
Enable optical monitoring and set alarm/warn interval to default(3 minutes)
telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)#optical-monitor 8
Enable optical monitoring and set alarm/warn interval to 8 minute(s)
telnet@ICX6450-48 Switch(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)#

Either way I still get zero output on show optic

Hope that helps explain....

Re: ICX 6450-24 no results with show optic command

Could it possibly be that you have a $16  generic 10GBase-SR SFP+ module?

Not passing judgement only asking... "what happens if you swap that module for a genuine Brocade 10G-SFPP-SR?"

It is one of the generic optics.
