Re: Switch fabric capacity / Data forwarding capacity

Hi,

Switch fabric capacity: The maximum rate the hardware can move information between cards/ports. This does not account for look-ups frames and packets.

Forwarding rate: The maximum rate the system can actually perform forwarding for frames/packets, including delays with store-and-forward, MAC/route table look-up, etc.

The switch fabric capacity will be calculated from ASIC / hardware specs, whereas forwarding capacity is usually derived from testing.

Hope this helps

Regards

Mick
